WATCH: John Crawford hopes to earn Berwick Rangers contract

Berwick Rangers trialist John Crawford is anxious for player-manager Colin Cameron to put him out of his misery and tell him whether or not he is being offered a contract.

The former Coldstream striker from Eyemouth has played in all three of Berwick’s pre-season friendlies so far.

“I have supported the club since I was a boy,” said Crawford. “It’s an honour to pull on the black and gold jersey, even if it is only for this short time.

“I’ve had three trial matches and if I am being honest I think I have done OK, although I am disappointed I haven’t hit the net as that is what my game is all about.

“But I have been working on other things, like tracking back and it’s been a learning experience.

“It would be great if I could get a chance with Berwick, but there are a number of other clubs showing an interest in me and of course they are getting impatient, so I would like to get things sorted out as quickly as possible.

“The manager says he is going to tell me shortly of his decision, so it’s fingers crossed.”

One local trialist who will not now be pulling on the black and gold next season, however, is former defender Dougie Brydon.

The Duns-based centre-half played for the club in 2013-14, but returned to his home town club last season after a niggling groin and hip injury.

He played the second half of the opening friendly against North Shields, but has not featured since, and at the weekend it was confirmed by Duns that he had re-signed for the East of Scotland side for the forthcoming campaign.
