To mark the 70th birthday of club stalwart Alan Allison, Gala Fairydean Rovers have re-named the bar in the clubrooms as ‘The Alan Allison Bar’.

The new sign’s unveiling took part in the clubrooms on Sunday in front of a limited number of members, because of social distancing.

For almost a decade, Alan has manned the bar voluntarily every weekend, serving refreshments to members and visitors.

Apart from the current pandemic, which forced the closure of the bar from March until last weekend, he has never missed a shift – apart from a Saturday in May 2016, when he was at Hampden to see Hibs finally lift the Scottish Cup.

Gala FR chairman Ryan Cass said: “Alan is a legend at the club and no-one deserves this more than him. With his 70th birthday coming up this week, we felt it was appropriate to re-name the bar in his honour.”

Meanwhile, on the playing front, Gala FR’s first team resumes training this weekend, so it will be fully prepared for the new Lowland League campaign, which is expected to get under way at the start of October.
