Aldi is rolling out click and collect at 200 more UK stores in time for Christmas

Aldi is preparing to roll out click and collect to 200 more stores across the UK in time for Christmas.

The news comes following an initial trial of the service, and will see it brought to hundreds more stores over the next few weeks, allowing shoppers to order their groceries online and pick it up.

Pandemic-led decision

Traditionally the German supermarket chain has avoided using a click and collect service, instead opting for a faster checkout-service than some of its competitors.

However, lockdown restrictions changed its approach and has seen Aldi partner with delivery service Deliveroo, and later trial a click and collect service.

The service was first piloted in one of its Midland stores in September, and will now be expanded nationwide.

Aldi Chief Executive Giles Hurley said: “We know that more and more people want to buy high-quality food at unbeatable Aldi prices – particularly at the moment – and this trial has been hugely popular so far.

“By extending it to hundreds of new stores, we’re making Aldi accessible to thousands of shoppers who might never have visited one of our stores before.”

How it will work

The click and collect service will see collection points pop up the store car parks.

Customers will be able to have their shopping bought to their car by Aldi employees, in line with social distancing guidelines.)

The introduction of the service will no doubt prove popular as shoppers prepare to stock their cupboards in time for a potential lockdown Christmas in 2020.

The Deliveroo service is currently available to customers living in the East Midlands, London, Cambridge and Greater Manchester.

Shoppers are able to order from more than 300 Aldi products and have them delivered to their doorstep in as little as 30 minutes.
