Witnesses sought as pensioner dies in motorbike crash on A68

A 72-year-old motorcyclist has died following a crash on the A68 near the border at Carter Bar yesterday afternoon.

The incident took place shortly after 4.10pm on Tuesday, July 28, between the border and the junction with A6088.

Police have appealed for witnesses.

The 72-year-old was the rider of a Honda motorcycle, which was involved in a collision with a Renault Trafic van. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone with information who has not already spoken to police to make contact.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2174 of July 28.”
