Oscar goes solo in snowdrops at Mertoun Estate

While the Borders has been pummelled by rain this week, there are hopeful signs that spring could be on the way.

Also, it’s forecasted to dry up a bit over the next few days and we could even see some sun, with temperatures topping around 11C, which isn’t exactly tropical, but it’s a lot warmer than we have been experiencing of late.

Normallly at this time of year, the gardens at Mertoun Estate near St Boswells would be open to visitors, but for now, due to Covid restrictions, five-year-old Oscar Norris – son of head gardener Rupert – has this stunning display of snowdrops which carpet the estate’s woodland to admire on his own.
