Borders braced for heavy snow as Met Office issues Yellow Warning

The Met Office is predicting a period of heavy snowfall from 5am on Wednesday until 9pm on Thursday this week.

If it comes, significant travel disruption is likely, with higher lying rural communities at risk of being cut off.

Power supplies and mobile phone coverage could also be affected.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “There is still a lot of uncertainty in how this band will interact with the cold air but there is the potential to see between two and five centimetres of snow to low levels and five to 15cm above 150m.

“There is also the potential, where snow persists, that a few locations may see up to 30cm.

“Although uncertain, the persistent and widespread nature of the snow forecast brings the risk of disruption, therefore we have issued a yellow (very low likelihood of medium impacts) snow warning valid from 5am on Wednesday through until 9pm on Thursday.”

The warning area covers much of mainland Scotland away from coastal areas.
