Weather fails to rain on Floors Castle's pipe band parade

Thousands of visitors braved the dreary weather for an uplifting afternoon of pipe band performances and dancing within the grounds of Kelso's Floors Castle on Sunday.

The annual massed bands event this year boasted a new programme which added performances from Edinburgh-based St Mary’s Music School and dancing by around 100 youngsters from Kelso’s M-Pulsive Dance School.

Scottish Fire and Rescue and the Army Cadet Force gave demonstrations throughout the day, children enjoyed a bouncy castle and toddler soft play, face painting and an inflatable assault course, while local crafters and food and drinks businesses filled any remaining on the castle grounds.

Pipers and drummers from Hawick Scouts, Selkirk, Edinburgh Postal, Melrose, Glencorse, and Jedburgh pipe bands combined to form a massed band of over 200 members which proved a spectacle for crowds as they paraded and performed during the afternoon.

The Duke of Roxburghe Guy Innes-Ker took the salute from senior drum major Brian Scott and thanked him and all the members of the bands for putting on a spectacular show.

Dance school principal Michelle Douglas said that the youngsters were “true professionals” after they “pulled a fab performance out the bag even when the rain was lashing down.”
