WATCH: Council leader David Parker wants Borders Railway extended

Scottish Borders Council leader David Parker says extending the Borders Railway to Hawick and beyond is “absolutely critical”, but insists that the new line will be an “outstanding success”.

Councillor Parker describes the opening of the line this weekend as “emotional” and predicts that the railway will be “more successful than we think.”

He believes the argument for extending the line further south to Hawick and then on to Carlisle can now begin and that the benefit of doing so would be “massive”.
