The inquests found the 96 football fans were unlawfully killed; fans were in no way to blame and that the police made major omissions and errors in their planning for the FA Cup semi-final and their response to the disaster.

The verdicts have vindicated the Hillsborough families who have fought for justice for 27 years against South Yorkshire Police’s blaming of football supporters for the tragedy.

Emotional families at the inquest have reacted with cheers, applause and tears to the verdicts.
