A stretch of the Edinburgh-Carlisle road along its 40mph stretch near Hillside Drive will be shut for resurfacing between 9am and 5pm from Monday, September 28, to Tuesday, October 6, but it will be open on Saturday and Sunday, October 3 and 4.

Preparatory works will take place along that stretch of road from this Wednesday, September 23, to Friday, September 25, with traffic lights in operation.

Electronic signage is already in place to advise travellers in advance of the roadworks.

Access for walkers and cyclists will be maintained throughout.

Northbound traffic will be diverted onto the A68 until its junction with the B6458 Tynehead road, rejoining the A7 north of Heriot, with the same diversion in the opposite direction applying for drivers heading south.

School transport will be allowed through the works.

X95 service buses will be diverted via the B710 at Clovenfords.

Selkirkshire councillor Gordon Edgar, Scottish Borders Council’s executive member for infrastructure, travel and transport, said: “Any drivers or cyclists who use the A7 regularly will welcome these resurfacing works, which will greatly improve this section of the road.

“We realise there will be significant disruption as a result of these works, but the road will be open outwith 9am to 5pm working hours and at weekends as well.

“Thank-you to all local communities and road users in advance for their patience and understanding with these works.”
