Three groups successful in council grant scheme bids

At a meeting of the executive committee on Tuesday, members agreed to give £4,452 to The Bridge, £4,109 to Borders Youth Theatre and £1,060 to Heads Together.

The cash will come from the council’s community grants scheme, with members agreeing to transfer more than £5,000 from the non-Borders based budget part of the scheme to allow the grants to be made.

The Bridge will put the money towards the cost of replacing the community car which forms part of the Tweed Wheels community transport service.

The total project cost is £32,000, but The Bridge is also seeking funding from various other sources, as well as contributing more than £12,000 from its own savings.

The grant to Borders Youth Theatre will help them put on a production as part of the National Theatre Connections 2014 Festival.

It, too, is seeking other funding for the project and is contributing in-kind producer and administrator costs of around £3,000.

Both grants are dependent on match funding being achieved from other sources.

Heads Together, which supports people suffering from brain injuries, will use the grant towards the purchase of two sewing machines, paints and craft materials to use in handcrafts activities.
