Three cold-callers arrested

Police received reports on Tuesday, March 8, that three people were going door-to-door, selling fish with “aggressive selling techniques”.

On Thursday, March 10, Police Scotland confirmed that two men and a woman had been arrested and charged in connection with the offences.

Inspector Garry Cross of Hawick police station commented this week: “Two men, aged 46 and 27, and a 47-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the illegal sale of fish in the Chirnside area.

“All three have now been reported to the Procurator Fiscal for licensing offences and are expected to appear in court in due course.”

Inspector Cross continued: “I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of the local community who came forward and reported their suspicions.

“This allowed local officers to investigate the matter before tracing and arresting three people.

“We will always act on information that is passed to us and anyone who wishes to report a crime in their area should call police on 101.”

Police do not recommend dealing with cold-callers selling goods door-to-door. The public are advised to report any suspicious vehicles or callers immediately by phoning 101 or 999 in an emergency.
