The successful students - Laura Skene, Lee Casson, Jack Ancell, and Thomas Jenkins - all felt that this would be a good skill to add to their CVs, particularly when they begin to seek employment. The two-day course covers the history of teas and their categories, as well as coffee production. Students were trained in how to create various drinks including teas, coffees (including Lattes, Cappucinos and Espressos), hot chocolates, juices and smoothies.

Laura commented that following the Barista training she is more particular about the temperature of the milk in her coffee. Thomas added that he notices the quality - both good and bad - of coffees at cafes and restaurants much more since completing the course.

The students’ new skills will be put to the test in June when a competition is being held on Campus between the Level 2/3 Catering students. Participants will be required to design and create their own unique coffee within a set time, adhering to good practice rules and procedures.
