Sammi and Maria up for Para Athlete of the Year

Gordon wheelchair racer Sammi Kinghorn and Dunbar runner Maria Lyle have been recognised for their excellent results in 2015 by being shortlisted for the Scottish Para Athlete of the Year award.

The pair make up half of the four-strong shortlist for the award which will be presented early in 2016.

Rodger Harkins, director of coaching with scottishathletics, said: “I commend the four athletes on being short-listed for this award because once again the standard is very high for one of our accolades.

“If you look at each of them, they have performed where it matters with good results on a world stage. We’ve seen that in Doha [where Lyle and Kinghorn brought home four medals].”

Maria Lyle won a gold medal in Doha as part of a world record-breaking relay team,as well as two silver medals.

At the same games, Sammi Kinghorn won bronze in her 200m event.
