Rugby star to break ground on new £1M 3G pitch

Scotland women's rugby international Lana Skeldon will help cut the first sods for the new £1million Hawick 3G sports pitch at Volunteer Park.

The 15-times capped player, who hails from Hawick, will be joined by representatives of Hawick Linden and Wanderers rugby clubs for the ceremony.

Both clubs play at Volunteer Park and, as part of the Volunteer Park Sports Club group, have been key in co-ordinating and supporting the delivery of the project along with Bill McLaren Park Ltd.

They have worked alongside Scottish Borders Council (SBC), which is delivering and funding the project with sportscotland.

The new pitch is being built by Malcolm Construction and will be managed by Live Borders when it opens in autumn 2016 for sports clubs and schools to use.
