Referendum: Borders has 87.4% turnout

A total of 27, 906 votes (33%) were cast for Yes and a total of 55,553 votes (67%) were cast for No.

A total of 67 votes were rejected for a number of reasons, including: 0 did not bear the official mark on the ballot paper; 11 voted in favour of both answers; 1 included writing or a mark by which the voter could be identified and 55 were unmarked or void for uncertainty.

Counting officer Tracey Logan said: “I was really pleased with how the count went in Kelso. On such an historic occasion our staff ensured an efficient and effective count was carried out and I’d like to thank them all for their commitment and effort.”
