Readers share their own unique views for #AWindowOnScotland

#AWindowOnScotland was launched last month by VisitScotland – urging Scots to share the sights they could see from their properties.

Readers were more than up for the challenge, sending in scores of images which gave a unique perspective of our towns and villages.

From views from the window of 16th century Aikwood Tower to the Eildon Hills, each picture has helped create an authentic snapshot of the Borders in lockdown – as well as spreading some joy.

It also gathered support from the Big Houses of the Scottish Borders group with images from Thirlestane Castle in Lauder, Mellerstain House near Gordon, Paxton House in Duns and Traquair House near Peebles among those shared online.

Gillian Steele, who is chairwoman of Big Houses, said: “The campaign provides us with a great visual opportunity to continue to promote our houses, their gardens and wildlife from the same perspective as everyone at home.

“I don’t think people will forget we are here but with us all looking out of our windows dreaming of the day we can travel again, this campaign strikes a chord.”

Since its launch three weeks ago, #AWindowOnScotland has been used 2500 times across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

The campaign has a clear stay at home message but allows everyone to show off their own unique part of Scotland.

Malcolm Roughead, chief executive of VisitScotland, said: “We’re thrilled at the reaction from residents and heartened that businesses are engaging too, using the opportunity to share their windows on Scotland with the world.

“But the campaign is far from over; we’d encourage residents and businesses to continue posting their views to help lift the spirits of those at home and abroad.”

Take a picture from your property and post it on social media using the hashtag #AWindowOnScotland and your location (i.e #Kelso, #Peebles, #Duns etc).
