Pubs urged to remember TV licenses for 6 Nations

Borders boys Ross Ford, Stuart Hogg and captain Greig Laidlaw are in the Scotland squad so local fans will flock to pubs and bars around the area to catch the action.

With 360 licenced outlets in the Borders, TV Licensing and BII Scotland are reminding all pub owners that they need to have a TV Licence to show any live games.

TV Licensing will visit unlicensed pubs and bars throughout this year’s tournament, which runs until the March 19. Those without a valid licence are breaking the law and run the risk of a court prosecution and fine of up to £1,000 per offence, plus costs.

Jason Hill, TV Licensing Scotland spokesman, said: “To be fair to the majority who do pay the licence fee, we have to take action against those who try to get away with not paying. If landlords would like more information about the licensing requirements, or ways to spread the cost, they can contact our call centre on 0300 790 6112”
