Police hunt Walkerburn firestarter

Police are seeking witnesses following a suspicious garage blaze in Caberston Road, Walkerburn, last night.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We got a call at 11.48pm on Wednesday, April 14, that two garages in Caberston Road were alight.

"Crews from Innerleithen and Peebles attended and used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire, which was put out at 1.33am.”

Police were contacted at 12.15am by the fire service, and it’s believed the fire was started deliberately.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We attended and initial enquiries suggests this has been a deliberate act.

"Thankfully, nobody was injured.“If anyone believes they have information relating to this incident, please call us on 101, quoting incident 0044 of Wednesday, April, 15, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The village’s bowling club and the nearby stables at Haughhead have also been recent victims of fireraising.
