Twenty’s plenty in Selkirk ... or is it?

While Borders drivers are having to come to terms with the blanket 20mph limits in our towns and villages, those in Selkirk may be forgiven for being a wee bit confused.

One resident, Doug Anderson, took this photo at Hillside Terrace in the town this week, and posted it on social media, asking “Ok so which should it be. 20 or 30?”

He added: “Sorry officer, but I thought the larger sign had priority. Don’t think that will work.”

A spokesman for Scottish Borders Council, which is carrying out the work as part of an 18-month trial, said the two conflicting signs had been an anomaly, that it had since been sorted, and that the work in Selkirk is almost complete.

The spokesman said: “Obviously it is a huge task to change all the signage, so there can be some anomalies and we appreciate the patience and understanding of drivers during the works.

“The new 20mph limit is enforceable once all signage is in place in the community.

“Regular updates on the programme and FAQs can be found on the SBC website at www.scotborders.gov.uk/20mph”.
