ScotRail is introducing a revised timetable as its staff availability has been affected, as well as customer demand.

As well as the trains only going once an hour, later trains have been cancelled all together.

The first train from Tweedbank to Edinburgh will be at 6.58am, running on an hourly basis after that, with the first train from Edinburgh leaving Waverley at 7.22am.

The last train from Tweedbank will be at 7.31pm, with the last train back to the Borders leaving at 7.24pm.

ScotRail says it will allow for additional cleaning of trains and stations.

With more railway staff being affected by the impact of the coronavirus, revising services also accommodates infrastructure changes, and allows safety critical roles to be performed across the country.

ScotRail claims that the revised service level will deliver more than enough seats to meet the current demand levels and the timetable will be kept under regular review to react to any further developments.

David Simpson, ScotRail’s operations director, said: “We are facing an unprecedented challenge on Scotland’s railway and the revised timetable will help to provide a critical service for the key workers across the country.

“Our own people are absolutely committed and are working flat out on the frontline to help keep the country moving, while also keeping themselves and customers safe.”
