Top award for Queen’s House care home
A care home in Kelso has been named the leading facility of its kind in Scotland for the second year running at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Queen’s House won the Care Home of the Year award at the Scottish Care Awards, held last Friday, May 14.
The online ceremony was hosted by presenter, columnist and Pop Idol winner, Michelle McManus and Scottish Care CEO, Dr Donald Macaskill.
Delighted concierge at Queen’s House, Steven Bailey, said: “We are delighted to receive the Care Home Service of the Year Award for the second consecutive year.
“Our very own Lou McIntee also won the award for the Ancillary and Support Staff category.
“We are extremely proud of these achievements and would like to say thank you to each and every one of you for all of your support over the past year.”
Sandra Samson, who nominated the home on behalf of a relatives support group said: “Given the unprecedented circumstances of 2020 in which all homes across the country found themselves, I hope to justly demonstrate the extraordinary efforts made by our Queen’s House team to meet the extraordinary challenges posed.
“Firstly, however, we as relatives are well aware that Queens House staff have always been and continue to be dedicated to providing compassionate care in a safe and happy environment.
"The in-house training centre ensures that the home invests in the personal and professional development of staff and volunteers, also seeking on-going feedback from staff and relatives on their practice.
"Our impression is that staff are well-led and well-supported in their development and training needs.
“They are a happy team committed to putting those in their care at the heart of everything they do and as a result they have happy residents."
She added: “Residents and their families are treated with respect and dignity at all times. As staff have said to me, we are a family.”
The Care Home Awards have been hailed a huge success in recognising individuals, teams and companies who are delivering care at a high standard in a challenging period and within an increasingly demanding work environment.
