Relaxation could be in store if planners agree bid for shop

A former home interior store and gift shop in Peebles could enjoy a new lease of life as a meditation and yoga centre if new proposals get the green light from planners.

An application has been submitted to Scottish Borders Council for the conversion of the ex-La Petite Chambre outlet at School Brae to a workshop, studio, retail outlet and office accommodation.

The former store closed its doors several months ago.

The bid has been submitted by meditation and yoga teacher Suzanne Gibson, of Gladstone Place in Peebles.

She said: “We are hoping to lease or purchase the property previously known as La Petite Chambre Interiors in School Brae. It has been empty for approximately the last year.

“It is currently classed as Class 1 retail. We would like to apply for mixed use, with the upper floor as a meditation and yoga workshop and studio space.

“Downstairs would be a mixed retail and office space. It would all be occupied by one business and we do not anticipate making any alterations.” No objection to the application was made by Peebles Civic Society.
