Local MSP Christine Grahame has added her thanks to the army of volunteers in the Borders to mark National Volunteers’ Week.

This has taken a somewhat different tone this year as a result of the pandemic, with many focusing on supporting volunteers to take on coronavirus-related volunteering roles and recognising their community efforts during the crisis.

Ms Grahame, MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale said: “Volunteers often form the backbone of communities at any time, but under current circumstances their contributions have been vital to keeping society going through this crisis.

“Whether it’s delivering shopping to vulnerable neighbours to producing PPE for frontline staff, our volunteers have pulled together to get us all through this.

“Their contributions are invaluable and I would like to personally thank them for all they’ve done, throughout the year but particularly in the past three months.

“Whilst we might not be able to celebrate them in the normal ways I hope everyone will take time to add their own thanks in an appropriate way.”

The www.volunteersweek.scot website has a number of ideas on how people can celebrate volunteers under current restrictions.
