More than 12,000 spectators, many decked out in traditional fancy-dress efforts, enjoyed a mix of international and local rugby at last year’s tournament, and with the 2020 event expanded to a four-day festival including live music and extra tournaments, an even bigger turnout was expected this weekend.
That’s been shelved, though, so we’re settling instead for a look back through the Southern’s archives at some photos of the event, the biggest in the Borders, in years gone by.

Sevens Heaven....... Scottish rugby legend Doddie Weir joins Borders-born sports commentator Jill Douglas to launch ticket sales for next year's Melrose Sevens.
