Galashiels Burns night cancelled next year

Galashiels Burns Club has cancelled its 2021 supper, due to be held in January, due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

Matthew Burgess.

Secretary Matthew Burgess said the decision was taken “with a heavy heart”.

He added: “We have waited as long as possible before taking this very hard decision, but feel it is the responsible thing to do in the current situation.

“The health and well being of our members and their families is paramount to us and we feel it would be irresponsible to carry on with the planning of the supper without knowing what stage or tier of lockdown we would be in come January.”

Mr Burgess added: “As our AGM on April 28 was postponed, all office bearers have agreed to carry on in their respective positions till we are able to hold the meeting which we intend to do in April 2021.

“We will make an announcement when we have a date.

“Galashiels Burns Club would like to thank all NHS and other front line workers – both locally and nationally – for the amazing work they are doing in these strange times and encourage our members to stay safe.”
