It’s a popular spot for dog walkers and the field sports a monument to Dandy comic character Black Bob.

Councillor Caroline Cochrane said she reported the incident to the town’s new community police officer Stephen Granger after being contacted by a resident.

Talking at Monday’s community council meeting she said: “It appears one lady’s dog is in intensive care after it ate some poison pellets that had been left there.

“So if you’re walking your dog down that way, you need to take care.”
