Dancers delight in Disneyland's famous parade

The troupe from Kelso’s Michelle Douglas M-Pulsive Dance School had so impressed judges the day before in the 10th international Festival of Dance and Performing Arts, gaining a second and third place, that they were invited to be part of a group that led the famous parade of characters.

The school’s senior hiphop section took second place, while Kelso 11-year-olds Katie Potter and Rebecca Peddie finished third out of 12 international groups in the Junior Duo Open Entertainment category.

School owner Michelle, who took 25 boys and girls aged 9-17 to Paris for the event, said: “I came up with the idea to do something special celebrate the 10th anniversary of the school and it certainly paid off.

“It was great to see the younger ones so happy with the senior group doing so well, they really look up to them.

“And for Katie and Rebecca to finish third in the duos was fantastic.”

The group competed in solos, duets, and lyrical and hiphop groups.

Rebbecca’s mum Nicola told us: “It was so exciting! Katie and Rebecca choreographed their dance piece themselves, so it was even more amazing that they were placed.

“We were really surprised, as the other groups came from all over the world, including Russia.

“And to see them dance ahead of the parade on the Sunday, with the famous Disney castle in the background, was just magical.”
