It’s a different state of affairs from other counts, as due to Covid-19 restrictions, overnight counts are not permitted and, for the Borders, is taking place over today and tomorrow, when the votes for the Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale constituency will be counted.

The Southern Reporter will bring you the result as they are announced on both days.

Today, Conservative candidate Rachael Hamilton is hoping to secure the seat she won at the 2017 by-election by a majority of over 9,000 votes.

Counting is now under way in the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire constituency.

Early indications seem to suggest she will do so.

She’s up against Paul Wheelhouse (SNP), Ian Davidson (Labour), Jenny Marr (Lib Dem), Jesse Rae (Independent), and Barbra Harvie (Greens).

The votes for the South of Scotland list parties are also being counted at Kelso, but the result will be announced from Dumfries after all the first past the post results are declared.
