This week, Openreach announced the plans to bring ultra-reliable and gigabit-capable full fibre broadband to these Borders towns as part of a £12billion investment to get the fastest broadband to rural communities in a bid to underpin the UK’s economic recovery from Covid-19.

Work is expected to get under way in many of the named locations within the next 12-18 months, although, due to the size of the build, some places will see work continue into 2024.

The Scottish Government’s connectivity minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “This rollout of gigabit-capable full fibre broadband access enabled by Openreach to these more rural areas is welcomed.”
