Band to play Braw Lads at home

Like most Borders towns, Galashiels will be without its summer festival principals this year, but the town band still hopes to mark the declaration night with a performance.

Just as they would if there was no such thing as coronavirus, band members will play two verses of “Braw Lads” at 8pm next Friday, April 24.

But it won’t be at the Burgh Chambers. Each junior and senior member will play their part outside their own homes.

Neal Wade, band chairman, said “The band members live all over the town.

“Hopefully the townspeople are close enough to one of us to hear, and of course we would love it if they sing along!”

If there are other brass players in the town who would like to get involved, they are invited to contact the band through Facebook and music will be provided.
