Nostalgia: Gala Scouts take their pick of the litter

Two full skiploads of rubbish from the old railway embankment at Langlee were collected by enterprising Scouts from the Galashiels area in May 1981.

They undertook the work as part of ‘Operation Clean-Up’ – a national anti-litter campaign held during this year’s job week.

The boys, who are all aged between eight and 12, also set up 12 nesting boxes for the birds. They were supervised – and ably assisted – in their task by Scout leader Stewart Bell.
