His previous leadership portfolio as associate medical director in Ayrshire & Arran spanned a wide range of services and he was the lead doctor for Ayr Hospital, leading on service excellence and redesign, clinical governance and medical performance.

Andrew’s interests extend to general practice, community and integrated services; until most recently Andrew was a member of the South Ayrshire Integrated Joint Board for Health and Social Care.

John Raine, chair of NHS Borders, said: “Andrew brings a wealth of experience to NHS Borders. He has an exemplary record of skilled medical leadership and strongly supports the values we have as a Board in putting the needs of patients at the centre of all we do. Andrew will have a pivotal role in the development of health and social care services to Borders people in their own communities as well as ensuring high quality services in our hospitals.”

Delighted to join NHS Borders, Andrew said: “It is a real privilege to come to work in the Borders at this exciting and challenging time.

“I look forward to working across the health system and with our partners in social care and the voluntary sector to improve the health and wellbeing of the people here in the Borders.”
