Motorists ignoring road closure signs in Innerleithen

Motorists are ignoring road closure signs to use a short cut to get to work from a Borders town, it is claimed.

Impatient commuters are flouting the law by using the B709 north of the golf course in Innerleithen.

“I was astonished at the number of vehicles driving through this area,” said Tweeddale East councillor Stuart Bell. “It’s still being used for commuting even though it’s closed. I am concerned for the residents.”

Councillor Graham Garvie, who also represents Tweeddale East, said: “It is illegal to ignore a road closure and we need to put a stop to this before something serious happens.”
