Inspector Carol Wood from Hawick Police Station said: “We are committed to identifying those responsible for preying on vulnerable members of our community and bringing them to justice.

“The public can assist us in our efforts to tackle bogus workmen offences by reporting any suspicious activity around the homes of family, friends or neighbours.

“In addition, homeowners are also asked to only utilise companies or individuals they know and trust to carry out work on their properties and never allow anyone access to your home if you are not entirely satisfied as to their identity.”
