After being presented with their massive cheque, David said it had bee a huge shock and a surreal few days but pledged it might change their lives but not them.
“We basically sat in stunned silence for about five minutes after checking our numbers on Sunday,” said David. “If we’d won £50,000 we’d have been dancing round the living room but this amount was so big we were literally stunned into silence.”
The couple would not be drawn on whether they would remain in Hawick, but said trips to the Augusta golf championship in the USA and Wimbledon were top of the list.

Asked if they would be sharing some of the money, David said: “Well be looking to friends and family.”
And in a parting shot to the ranks of the press, David, who has had health problems in the past, quipped the name of his home town was pronounced ‘Hawick’ and not ‘Howick’. “Just before anyone says anything,” he laughed.
David and Carol won the jackpot with the numbers 26, 27, 46, 47, 52 and 58.
The owner of the other winning ticket is yet to come forward, and has until 7 July to come forward.
