Local firm in forestry buyout

A national timber group based in Berwickshire has bought out a leading forestry company based in Stirling.

Tilhill Forestry was established in 1948 and had grown to become the UK’s largest forest management and timber harvesting company.

It will now operate as a subsidiary of BSW Timber Limited, which operates sawmills across the UK and in Latvia, with its headquarters in Earlston.

BSW Timber is the largest sawmilling business in Great Britain and the company’s foundations go back to 1848.

BSW sawmills are located throughout the UK, at Fort William, Boat of Garten, Petersmuir, Dalbeattie, Carlisle, Southampton and Newbridge-on-Wye in Wales and they have one sawmill in Riga, Latvia. Group headquarters remain in Earlston, where the business originated. Today the firm employs 1000 people in the UK and Latvia, and turnover is in excess of £220 million.
