Hawick park trees moved

Work on a new outdoor classroom and café, as well as landscaping works around the Gilbert Davidson Fountain, will begin this spring, following the tree and shrub removal.

Consultation on the removal of the trees and shrubs was carried out with local councillors and members of Hawick in Bloom. The trees being removed will be replaced by new trees elsewhere in the park.

Councillor Gordon Edgar, Scottish Borders Council’s executive member for roads and infrastructure, said: “The Wilton Lodge Park regeneration project aims to improve the quality and standard of the park for Hawick residents and visitors in the longer term.

“This year’s works follow the opening of the new walled garden, park gallery in Hawick Museum and Zandra Elliot Bandstand in 2015.”

Councillor David Paterson, SBC’s executive member for environmental services, added: “I am pleased that trees will be planted in other locations in the park to replace those which are having to be removed.

“These works will restore views between Hawick Museum and the Gilbert Davidson Fountain, and the River Teviot, ahead of the next phase of the project.”

The £3.64million regeneration project is funded by SBC and the Heritage Lottery Fund.
