A one-way system is currently in place over the bridge while resurfacing works take place, with Galashiels to Tweedbank traffic diverted via A7 to B6360 Abbotsford Road towards Tweedbank.

However, the road will be closed to all traffic between 9pm to 6am, until Thursday, August 31, after it was established that further work was needed.

Amey, which manages the trunk road network, says that additional work is required after more extensive concrete repair works were identified once the surfacing had been removed.

A spokesperson for Amey said: “These additional repairs are essential to the successful completion of the current scheme to provide substantial improvements to the condition of the bridge.”

The work will be done under full night-time road closures, with eastbound traffic being diverted from Kingsknowe Roundabout via the A7 and B6360 until reaching Tweedbank Roundabout – eastbound HGVs will be diverted via A7, A699 and A68.

All westbound traffic including HGVs will be diverted via the A68, A699 and A7.

The A6091 will be open to local access and complete closure will come into effect between Kingsknowe Roundabout and Tweedbank Roundabout.

Arrangements have been made for emergency vehicles to be escorted through the work site and they will not be required to use the diversion.
