Family of Galashiels woman missing for last week tell of their ‘living nightmare’

The family of a 30-year-old woman missing for the last week have told of their worries for her welfare and are appealing to her to get in touch.

Melita Hachey was last seen leaving her Livingstone Place in Galashiels on the afternoon of last Friday, February 21.

It is believed that Melita might have travelled to Leaderfoot via Gattonside or Melrose, and police are trying to establish how she might have made that seven-mile journey.

They are appealing for reports of any sightings of her since then to help them establish her whereabouts.

Melita is described as white, around 5ft 5in tall and of slim build, with shoulder-length brown hair cut in a bob style.

When last seen, she was wearing a dark-coloured parka-style jacket with a fur-trimmed hood, blue jeans and white trainers.

In a statement issued via police today, February 28,her family say: “The last week has been a living nightmare.

“We just want Melita to be with her family and safe.

“Melita, if you are reading this, we need you to know how deeply loved you are.

“We are lost without you and desperately need you back with us.

“Nothing matters more than that, and our arms are open waiting for you to be with us.”

Anyone with information on Melita’s movements is asked to call Galashiels police station on 1010, quoting incident number 640 of February 22.
