Jackie Couchman, minutes secretary of the town’s community council said the bins, which also dispense free poo bags, had made a difference.

However, she said, some snagging needs to be sorted.

She said: “The bags we have are not really big enough, and they are pulling away from the anchor.

“And, we’ve found that bags that are not dispensed are falling back into the bin as there is nothing there to hold them in properly.

“We are sourcing new bags – any bags would do, but we are looking at ones which are biodegradable.”

Jackie added that they were looking into a mobile app, like the one used in Cambridge, where fouling can be reported and hotspots identified.

She said: “People can also report if the bags have run out using the app.”
