Shepherds show at Yetholm to mark 150th year

The Borders Shepherds Show is being held for the 150th time at Yetholm this October. And organisers hope those in the know will help the event celebrate.

The show committee is appealing for anyone with photographs, memorabilia and stories about the show to contact them. The event was started by local shepherds and has been held annually except when wars and foot and mouth intervened.

Show chairman for the third year, Alan Hutcheon said: “We have stayed true to what it has been over 150 years, but obviously with the change in farming and the people involved in farming, it has changed a little.”

The show committee plan to have a separate marquee charting the show’s 150 years at this year’s event on Saturday October 5.

Mr Hutcheon said: “The 150th year is a time to reflect on the people who started it and how much pleasure the show has given the local community over the years. We are trying to get as much information about the past as possible, photographs and anything to do with the show.

“We have catalogues going back to the 1950s but we would like to take that back further. If anybody could help in any way we would be grateful.” Anyone who can help should contact show secretary Sarah Little on 01573 440235 or email her at [email protected]
