Driver killed in A68 crash near Lauder named as dad of two

A man killed in a head-on car crash on the A68 north of Lauder at the weekend has been named as father-of-two Colin MacDonald.

The 57-year-old, of Coldstream, sustained fatal injuries in a collision near the Edinburgh-to-Darlington road’s Soutra Aisle turn-off at 7pm last Saturday, February 22.

He was driving a Toyota Auris car north and it came into collision with a southbound Porsche Macan.

Mr MacDonald was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

The driver of the other car involved, a 51-year-old man, and his passenger, a 15-year-old boy, were also injured but not seriously, according to police.

Mr MacDonald’s family have issued a statement paying tribute to him, saying: “Colin was a much-loved and devoted father of two sons and a loving partner to Yvonne for 20 years.

“We are absolutely devastated by our loss.

“He will be very sadly missed by all our family, and we will treasure every memory we shared together.

“We would ask that our privacy is respected as this very sad and difficult time.”

Inquiries into how the crash occurred are continuing, and any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage are asked to contact officers on 101, quoting incident number 3,718 of February 22.
