Witnesses to Peebles mountain bike thefts urged to call police

One of the bikes which have been stolen from secure locations in Peebles over the last few days.

The thefts have occurred Thursday, March 16, and Monday, March 20, at four separate addresses.

In all cases, the bikes have been taken from secure sheds or garages, with the locks being forced.

The thefts occurred at addresses in Grossland Crescent, Ballantyne Place, Crossburn Farm Road and Edinburgh Road.

In one incident that occurred in Crossburn Farm Road between Sunday, March 19, and Monday, March 20, five bikes were taken with a collective value of around £6,000.

Nine bikes have been taken overall, all of which are worth three or four-figure sums. Officers are now investigating and are eager to speak to anyone with information.

Inspector Tony Hodges of Galashiels Police Station said: “These thefts occurred at addresses where the bikes were secure, nevertheless we would ask that the public be aware of these thefts and be vigilant.

“Be aware of any suspicious activity in your area, including any suspicious vehicles especially larger ones that could be used to carry stolen bikes.

“I would ask anyone with any information about these thefts to get in touch with police as soon as possible.

The bikes were taken from the following locations:

Ballantyne Place, between Thursday, March 16 and Saturday, March 18 – one bike was taken.

Grossland Crescent, between Friday, March 17 and Sunday, March 19 – one bike was taken.

Crossburn Farm Road, between Sunday, March 19 and Monday, March 20 – five bikes were taken.

Edinburgh Road, between Sunday, March 19 and Monday, March 20 – two bikes were taken.
