Witnesses to Galashiels layby attack sought by police

Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in broad daylight on a Galashiels road on Thursday, when a liquid substance was thrown over the driver of a car.

The incident happened at around 11.45am on Thursday, April 30, at the layby in Ladhope Vale, when a man driving a small white car or van (believed to be a 64 plate Renault Kangoo or Peugeot) allegedly threw a liquid substance onto the male driver of a grey Audi A3 motor car.

Fortunately the male was not injured.

The suspect is described as a white male, around 30 years old, about 5ft 10 in height, stocky build, having short ginger hair and a ginger beard.

He was wearing black work-type trousers, high visibility jumper with a hood and black trainers, and spoke with a Scottish accent.

The suspect was with a male passenger at the time of the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident, has been in the area at the time and has dash cam, or with any information, are asked to contact 101 quoting incident 1319 of April 30.

“Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 08000 555 111.”
