Police were called today amid reports of a cannabis farm being uncovered inside a flat in Hawick

It is believed a cannabis farm was uncovered in Hawick today after an anxious neighbour contacted emergency services amid fears his ceiling was in danger of collapse.

Police officers attended an upstairs property in Beaconsfield Terrace just before 1pm and were still at the scene until well into the afternoon.

Officers attended after fire service officers had forced entry into the property.

Another neighbour said: “The lad that lives there woke up this morning and there was a water leak from his ceiling.

"He thought the ceiling was going to collapse and called the fire brigade because he couldn’t get in touch with the people living in the property above.

"The fire brigade officers got in the house to find a cannabis farm, in the living room and the bedroom. It was then the police were called in.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to a flat in Beaconsfield Terrace around 12.55pm on Friday, March 12, and officers are currently at the scene.”
