Police warning issued after fake £20 notes tendered in Melrose

Traders in the Borders are being warned to be on the lookout for fake £20 notes after fraudsters tried to spend several at businesses in Melrose.

The banknotes tendered are said to look convincing but are meant only for use as film or stage props.

They have a Bank of England warning printed on them on one side saying: “This is not legal. It is to be used for motion props.”

The imitation notes bear the serial number DB6688800.

Traders given banknotes they suspect to be fake are urged to call Police Scotland on 101.
