Mindless pear tree theft in Kelso has angered volunteers
The theft of yet another tree from Kelso Abbey Community Orchard has angered townsfolk.
In the third such incident within ten months a Heritage Pear tree has been stolen in a planned extraction.
The tree was cut from its securing wire, dug up and removed and the ground covered back.
The theft has been reported to the police.
A spokesperson for Kelso Community Council said: “Volunteers spent a lot of time going through a legal process to acquire this land from the council. Broomlands, Edenside, Ednam and Sprouston Primary Schools adopted the trees and were in the process of naming them before lockdown. People who carry out these mindless acts really need to think about it.”
