The club claims youths are forcing open a locked gate to enter the grounds and congregate in groups there, going against government rules put in place to stop public gatherings while the country fights to stop the spread of coronavirus.

A club spokesman wrote a plea aimed at the town’s teenagers on the Kelso RFC social media page at the weekend.

It said: “Kelso RFC grounds are closed and the gates are shut. Three times this week a gate has been kicked open, just so you can gather inside the grounds. You could be spreading the virus to each other.

“The club’s closed circuit television is still on and recording you all.

“The police have been informed and have seen the footage of this week and last weekend, and know who to look out for. They will be coming by the club randomly.”

The plea continues; “This is our warning to you... keep out of Poynder Park or we will happily shame you and your family by positing the CCTV videos of you all on our social media.”

Under the lock down rules put in place by the UK Government two weeks ago, most people are forbidden from going outside apart from to exercise once a day, and pubic gatherings of more than two people are banned.

Police have been given powers to issue on the spot fines to those found breaking those rules.
