Interchange assault

A teenager has admitted being involved in two disturbances at the Galashiels Interchange within the space of four hours.

Eighteen-year-old Rene Miller pleaded guilty at Selkirk Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the premises in Ladhope Vale at 6.15pm.

At 10.15pm, he assaulted an employee by repeatedly punching and kicking him on the body.

Miller – who gave an address at Tweedholm Avenue East, Walkerburn – also pleaded guilty to challenging staff to fight, making offensive and sexualised comments towards a female police officer while in a police vehicle and exposing his genitals to the public.

At Hawick Police Station, he also admitted assaulting a female police constable by seizing her by the buttocks.

Sentence was deferred until March 27 for background reports.
